Where should I have my portrait session?
I recommend that you choose a location where your child can easily and freely express his or herself. Let’s go outside to your own backyard, a nearby park or even the beach. In the colder months, a variety of indoor options can be found in anyone’s home. While I typically use natural light whenever possible, sometimes it’s necessary to accompany the location with on-camera flash. Shooting on a solid white/black or canvas background is an option for indoors, but requires enough space in your home for the set up. My approach in all cases is to keep it simple to achieve the most natural results.
What type of clothing should we wear for our portrait?
I recommend that everyone wear comfortable clothes in solid colors, with similar or complimentary color tones. Busy patterns or clothing with graphics can be distracting. Light or dark hues maximize contrast with wonderful and dramatic results. Textures such as cable knit, fleece or denim always show nicely in pictures. Dress-up clothes and bare feet can be a lot of fun. Babies in diapers or onesies are classic. It’s best to minimize wardrobe changes to avoid disrupting the “flow” of the photo shoot.
What is included in a portrait session fee?
Prior to your session, we’ll talk about about your portrait and what you can expect. The session fee includes up to one hour of photography at any location of your choosing. Your pictures will be edited down to the very best of the session and then color corrected. Your portrait session will be presented online, where it can easily be shared and reviewed. You will get a credit allowance towards the purchase of any prints and products from Chris Leary Photography. There is no obligation to purchase any additional items from your portrait session.
What type of payments do you accept?
I accept cash, check or credit cards.
Can I bring friends or other family members to my session?
If they are not a part of the portraits, please don’t! Bringing other people, whether they are family or friends, and who will not be involved in the portrait, will only be very distracting. A session is an hour long, so everyone’s attention is crucial.
How long do you keep the originals?
I will keep them forever! All portrait sessions are archived, so that in the event of a fire or any other tragedy, you can always obtain copies of your pictures from me.
Do you offer the purchase of the digital files?
Yes, you can purchase a digital download of all the session images or you can purchase individual digital files.
I’m ready to book my session, how do I proceed?
Please contact me to schedule your session – there is a form at the bottom of this page. It’s a good idea to reserve a date at least 3 weeks in advance, and to also plan for a rain date. Portrait sessions just prior to major holidays often book quickly, so reserving your time slot is important.
Do you require a deposit to hold the appointment?
Yes. A non refundable retainer fee of $100.00 is required to book and hold your portrait session. The balance of the session fee is due 48 hrs prior to your session.
What if I need to reschedule?
Rescheduling is permitted up to 48 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment. You may reschedule only 3 times for any given retainer fee paid. Chris Leary reserves the right to reschedule your session at anytime due to the weather or for any reason that would make him unable to fulfill the portrait session appointment.
Do I need to sign a portrait session agreement?
Yes, an agreement between Chris Leary and his client is mandatory. The contract is simple and straightforward – spells out what Chris Leary is delivering for fees paid and outlines portrait session conditions and policies.
